Well-being in schools begins in Cluj!

According to the latest international studies, teachers, along with doctors and nurses, belong to the category with the highest level of stress relative to the workplace, and the pandemic has added significant pressure on an already hard-pressed system. We consider this aspect of emotional and behavioral health to be an urgent and extremely important one for education in Romania.

The first step in this regard will be made at the Education for Well-being Conference, where we gladly invite you to participate in, on November 6th.

The conference, organized by the Transylvania College Foundation, will bring together experts in education, teachers, school counselors, school leaders for an exchange of experience and the creation of concrete solutions.

The event will take place in a hybrid format and it’s addressed to teachers and administrative staff in pre-university education. The indirect beneficiaries of this initiative will be the students around, whom we want to achieve a healthy and safe environment of academic and personal development.

In the first part of the conference, there will be a panel of debates with the topic: “How can we support the well-being of teachers”, followed by presentations of the four stages within the concept of A.R.A.T., Attention to You, Recognition of thoughts, and emotions, Conscious Actions, and Transformation, supported by the invited speakers:

In the second part of the conference, participants will be invited to take part in an informal group reflection and will receive a model of an individual plan for a strategy for implementing well-being in their professional activity.
They will also be able to participate in a thematic workshop, out of the four that will take place simultaneously.

The national training program “Teachers’ well-being” continues!

With the support of Herlitz Romania, Pelikan, and Azomures, we continue the national training program “Teacher Well-being – a conscious journey” and we hope to meet teachers from as many counties in the country as possible. The course focuses on the importance of teacher well-being, emotional and physical health, comprising 5 live sessions, guided self-study on a digital platform, and meetings with reflection groups.

In September, 38 school counselors from Alba County, who enrolled through CJRAE Alba, started our training.
The journey to Wellness will continue in Buzau and Hunedoara counties.

A Conscious Journey towards Well-being

The online training “A Conscious Journey towards Well-being” is now available to all those who want to develop their skills to reduce stress, manage their emotions, and build emotional resilience.

What can we do to overcome stress, anxiety, and restlessness, accept and value ourselves more? How can we create a pleasant atmosphere in the classroom by conveying positive thoughts to our students that will make them participate in our classes with joy? Find out the answers in our training.

This month, we focus on the emotions we experience: joy that we have learned more and achieved some new things, gratitude that we have time for ourselves and our loved ones, and hope that, in the end, everything will be fine and, in the autumn, we will be ready to face all the challenges that lie ahead.

Podcast “Happy Teachers for Romania” with Simona Baciu

In the fourth episode of the Conversations with Farmec series, from the Podcast “Happy Teachers for Romania”, Simona Baciu invited  Lilia Dicu -Master Certified Coach. In the episode entitled “You deserve it, because you exist!”, our guest revealed to us what skills a teacher needs to develop to become better, both personally and professionally, and has dismantled a number of myths about coaching. Also, listening to the discussion she had with Simona, you’ll find out some “tips and tricks” from coaching that a teacher can apply to his students in the classroom.

The national training “The well-being of teachers” has reached to Sibiu county in Romania

With the support of Herlitz Romania, Pelikan and Azomures, we continue the national training program “The well-being of teachers – a conscious journey” and we hope to meet with teachers from as many counties in the country as possible. 

In July, three groups of teachers from Sibiu County were trained..

Starting September, the journey to the state of  well-being will continue in Buzau, Ilfov, Alba and Dolj counties.

“Happy Teachers for Romania – The well-being of the teacher, a conscious journey” is a course about you, first as A HUMAN  and then as a teacher. I learned in this course that 

if you’re well, it’s good for those around you, family, students, colleagues, friends.

From my point of view, this was “another type” of a course, pleasant, relaxing and yet rigorous, in which I did my homework on time, seriously, although they were not mandatory. The homeworks were  useful; I can’t say they were easy. 

The moments of meditation were the most relaxing, with the videos in which Simona told us in her calm voice about what we would find out that day. 

The hardest, for me, were the moments of reflection. Then I had to look at myself and see myself as I am, with goods and bads…

An hour a week, for five weeks, we saw each other online. Not too much, not too little, so that we will not be disturbed too much and  may have more time for ourselves!

It has been a great pleasure and honor for me to meet you, Gabriela and Simona, as well as the other colleagues with whom I have taken this course. We have gone through the four ARAT stages together, and each one of us has to continue their journey to their own transformation. 

I will certainly do this because I want to be one of the happy teachers who, I hope, will also make students happy.

The journey to well being continues!

The month of June is dedicated to teachers’ mental and emotional, whom we encourage to place their attention on themselves during this summer break.

We invite you to re(connect) with yourself, to allow yourself a little respite during which you recognize and accept both your merits and qualities but also the things that make you vulnerable. Take advantage of this period to recharge with positive energy and  (re)discover your well-being.  Results of the study on the well-being of teachers in Romania

The first scientific study dedicated to the well-being of Romanian teachers  took place during the months of March- May 2021, at the initiative of the “Happy Teachers for Romania” program- an initiative supported by the Transylvania College Foundation in Cluj-Napoca, together with dr. Gilda Scarfe – teacher, lawyer, positive psychology practitioner, and founder of the global innovative educational consulting project  – Positive Ed, in partnership with Merito, SuperTeach, Romanian Business Leaders and C-EDU Educational Cluster.

 The results will be presented in an online conference, that will take place in July, on the Facebook page.

“Happy teachers for Romania” podcast with Simona Baciu

 In the “Happy teachers for Romania” podcast, we launched a new series of Conversations with Farmec (Charm), the largest manufacturer of cosmetics in Romania, that will support us in cultivating the mental, emotional, but also the physical well-being of the members of our community. In the third episode, entitled “Learn to be happy”, Simona Baciu invited Daciana Sârbu, who spoke to us with sincerity and kindness about her career, family, education, and entrepreneuring.

The national training “The Well-being of teachers” arrived to Constanta

With the support of  Herlitz România, Pelikan and Azomureș, we continue the national training program “The Well-being of teachers – a mindful journey” and we hope to meet with teachers from as many counties in the country as possible. We are getting close to the end of a school year that proved to be as challenging and intense as the last one; a year in which we have again exceeded our limits, reinvented ourselves, and created new ways of connecting with our students. It was not easy at all. We have all experienced difficult times, but managed once again to find the inner  resources to move forward on our path. 

We congratulate you from the bottom of our hearts for every accomplishment, be it big or small, for every child who has remained connected to school, for every solution you have found and for every challenge that you have faced with great courage!

Thank you for joining our community of happy teachers and because, together, we have managed to implement so many beautiful projects, as you will see next.

The Emotional Health Week

The last week of May was dedicated to emotional health in the classroom and it generated a real Well-Being movement among teachers from all over the country. Over 30.000 teachers and kids enjoyed creative activities, discussions, and games together.

This ”different week” can be adapted based on the wishes and the necessities of each class and put into practice at any time, therefore bringing more joy, enthusiasm, and connection between children and their teachers. Each day of The Emotional Health Week has a specific theme and a challenge that kids and teachers have to fulfill. Through this, the students and the preschoolers will have the opportunity to recognize, control, and value their emotions in a constructive and beneficial manner for their emotional development.

But the story doesn’t end here! Inspired by Emotional Health Week, the teachers from our community have created a new concept, in a similar format, dedicated to reading, the D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) initiative, but we will tell you more about this in our next newsletter.

The “Happy Teachers for Romania” podcast with Simona Baciu

In the framework of the “Happy Teachers for Romania” podcast, we have launched a new series of Conversations with Farmec, the biggest cosmetics manufacturer in Romania, that will support us in cultivating the mental, emotional, and physical Well-Being of our community members. In the second episode, entitled “Live with Joy!”, our guest was chef Adrian Hădean and the feedback from our listeners is motivating us to invite inspiring people, from which we can learn. Discussions about Well-Being with Gabriela Secoșan

Encouraged by the return to school and the cheerful and flourishing atmosphere of May, our live meetings on Facebook now have a new format!  Gabriela Secoșan, director of the training program “Happy Teachers for Romania”, will discuss with her invited guests the state of Well-being, how to reach this and why it is important from various perspectives. Each month is dedicated to a certain theme. The theme for May is “Involving students in their own education”, and the first event took place on Thursday, May 13.

The national training “Teachers’ Well-Being” continues!

In March, we interacted with teams of teachers from Brașov, Suceava, and Bistrita Nasaud, who learned how to reduce stress and build emotional resilience, in order to reach the state of inner harmony. The training continues in April with two teams of teachers from Bucharest. 

We support the students involved in the community!

Over 60% of ninth-grade students in Romania consider that the current education system does not offer them opportunities for personal development. 

With this in mind, the young people from ThinkUp Academy launched the National Program for Personal Development of Students in Romania. This program connects schools, companies, and organizations, in order to provide students with a platform to explore their own interests. The National Program offers free semestrial webinars with experts in key fields of activity, access to a network of over 800 young people involved, as well as volunteering opportunities within partner organizations and companies.

Redirect 3,5% of your income tax to Happy Teachers for Romania!

We invite you to get involved in supporting the programs of  Happy Teachers for Romania. Until the 25th May 2021, you can redirect 3,5% of your income tax withheld by the State for the year 2020, toward the well-being of teachers and students in Romania.  

We launched the program Happy Teachers for Romania a year ago, with the purpose of developing teachers’ emotional resilience, thus supporting the Well-being in each classroom. We set out to focus on those who are meant to train and educate our children. Therefore, we organize training sessions and workshops dedicated to all teachers who wish to teach with kindness and enthusiasm and communicate with students with empathy and compassion.

The purpose of the program Happy Teachers for Romania is to offer teachers innovative courses based on the latest research in the field of neuroscience on the subjects of mindfulness practices, resilience, and well-being. These practices correlate kindness and self-care with emotional and physical health, all these to be reflected in students’ behavior and academic results.

February – Teacher’s Well-Being Month in the Romanian Education

This month, we are organizing the second edition of Teacher Wellness Month, a program that promotes the benefits of teachers’ well-being, both inside and outside of the classroom. This initiative derives from the recognition that teachers’ emotional and social health has a strong positive impact on students’ behavior and academic success.

Our initiative was joined by the Finnish Teacher Training Center Sibiu and 10 private schools in the country, which will help us organize a series of online activities dedicated to teachers. The activities are designed to provide the necessary framework for teachers to feel supported in their role of creators of education, so they can pass on the joy, enthusiasm, and positive attitude to their students.

Event Calendar:

A series of webinars for Teachers’ Well-Being 

On the 8 and 22 of February, starting 5PM (10AM EST), there will be two webinars dedicated to teachers, alongside founders and directors of private schools from Romania, on the Facebook page: Profesori Fericiți pentru România. Within the webinars the speakers will share methods, experiences, and good practices for Teachers’ Well-Being. 

If it’s Thursday, it’s about Well-Being!

On the 4, 18, and 25 February, a series of live discussions will be organised on the Facebook Page  Profesori Fericiți pentru România, entitled Conversations for Well-Being, about the challenges that teachers face during this period and how they can manage them to maintain their state of well-being. The events will be attended by Gabriela Secoșan – Director of the training program Happy Teachers for Romania, Simona Baciu – Founder of Happy Teachers for Romania, author of the book “The Teacher Within”, as well as their invited guests – specialists in education and opinion leaders in the field.  

Webinar Neuroscience and Teachers’ Well-Being 

The webinar Neuroscience and Teachers’ Well-Being, held on the 15th February, starting 3PM (8 AM EST) will address the subject of how well-being influences the physiological abilities of the brain, from the point of view of chemistry and biology. Elena Lotrean – founder of the Finnish Teacher Training Center – invited Laura Popa, as guest speaker, who will share her experiences as teacher, mentor, director and trainer with the participants. This webinar will be distributed live on the Facebook Page Finnish Teacher Training Centre, signing up can be made on the site teachertraining.ro (in the calendar section).

We are the Community!

Teachers are invited to share, in the Happy Teachers for Romania community, examples of methods they use to bring and maintain well-being in their classroom. During February, on the Facebook page Happy Teachers for Romania, we will distribute a series of inspirational messages, shared by teachers for teachers.

The Happy Teachers for Romania Podcast 

Together with all these events we launched the podcast Profesori Fericiți pentru România, dedicated to conversations about well-being, where we have talked about the challenges of being a teacher in the current times. The podcast was created from the desire to support teachers and all those who want to practice their profession with kindness and enthusiasm.

The beginnings are decisive, but it is important to maintain our well-being throughout the year.

We continue our national training program entitled Teachers’ Well-Being – A Conscious Journey with the generous support of Herlitz Romania and Azomureș.

On the 18th January, a new series of teachers from Cluj and Mures counties will learn how to reduce stress and build emotional resilience to reach a state of inner harmony.
